Affected by the decrease in supply from South Africa and the continued firmness of futures prices, the domestic foundry-grade chromite ore price in China is on the rise, and is expected to increase by 200 yuan per ton.
Beijing (Asian Metal) 2022-02-10 South African chrome ore exports in September 2021 were 1,056,467.10 metric tons, compared with 1,411,857.43 metric tons in the same period last year and 1,074,308.32 metric tons in the previous month, a year-on-year decrease of 25.17% and a month-on-month decrease of 1.66%.
In September 2021, the export value of South African chrome ore was US$150,088,000.00, compared with US$162,389,000.00 in the same period last year, and US$152,262,000.00 in the previous month, a year-on-year decrease of 7.58% and a month-on-month decrease of 1.43%. The average export price was US$142.07/metric ton, compared with US$115.02/metric ton in the same period last year and US$141.73/metric ton last month.
From January to September 2021, South Africa exported a total of 10,451,396.24 metric tons of chrome ore, compared with 9,534,559.50 metric tons in the same period last year, an increase of 9.62% year-on-year.
In September 2021, the top three export destinations of South African chrome ore are China, Mozambique and Hong Kong, China.
South Africa exported 459,369.65 metric tons of chrome ore to China, compared with 976,443.84 metric tons in the same period last year and 570,173.87 metric tons last month, a year-on-year decrease of 52.95% and a month-on-month decrease of 19.43%. The average export price was US$137.95/metric ton, compared with US$111.85/metric ton in the same period last year and US$138.18/metric ton last month, an increase of 23.13% year-on-year and a decrease of 0.22% month-on-month.
South Africa exported 399,038.65 metric tons of chromium ore to Mozambique, compared with 284,572.28 metric tons in the same period last year and 413,899.98 metric tons last month, an increase of 40.22% year-on-year and a decrease of 3.59% month-on-month. The average export price was US$147.91/metric ton, compared with US$109.60/metric ton in the same period last year and US$141.91/metric ton last month, a year-on-year increase of 34.45% and a month-on-month increase of 4.23%.
South Africa exported 65,171.42 metric tons of chrome ore to Hong Kong, China, compared with 21,877.41 metric tons in the same period last year and 14,839.32 metric tons last month, an increase of 197.89% year-on-year and a month-on-month increase of 339.18%. The average export price was US$112.66/metric ton, compared with US$100.15/metric ton in the same period last year and US$161.80/metric ton last month, an increase of 12.70% year-on-year and a decrease of 30.35% month-on-month.
